Since 2017, a comprehensive study and organization of Nikolai Drachinsky’s archive has been underway.

A two-volume monograph devoted to his life and creative legacy — Nikolai Drachinsky. Photographer. Curator. Experimenter. — is currently in preparation. The book traces Drachinsky’s career in photojournalism and covers the years 1917–1968, focuses on his landmark exhibition “The USSR: The Country and Its People in Art Photography” (1969–1976), and explores the brief yet remarkably intense period of Drachinsky’s experiments in color photography between 1976 and 1978.

The monograph is authored and compiled by Irina Chmyreva, Ph.D. in Art History and Senior Research Fellow at the Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Arts.

Design is by Konstantin Eremenko, a laureate of numerous international awards in book design.

The publication will feature rare archival materials, photographs, and personal recollections of Drachinsky shared by his colleagues and contemporaries.
